  2. Gain experience in project management. You don’t have to wait for a title to gain experience in project management.  Create opportunities where you can apply project management skills.
    • Seek out low profile projects to manage in your organization.
    • Take the initiative to suggest projects to management and volunteer to take the lead.
    • Apply project management techniques to your current role.
    • Volunteer outside of work to manage a project or program. Explore opportunities to apply project management skills. You can always add this to your resume.
  3. Get Certified.  Show how serious you are about a project management career.  Become certified to provide credibility and endorsement to your project management knowledge and professional experience.  There are many project management certifications that require educational and practical experience such as the PMP, PGMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2 etc.  However, there are entry level certifications such as the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), which is globally recognized by PMI and provides a great stepping stone in credibility for aspiring project managers.  No project management experience is required for the CAPM certification,
  4. Seek the Project Management jobs. Look for jobs related to project management that allow you to network with project managers or based on your experience, jump in a new PM role. Search for opportunities and be persistent!
